Sermon for International Women’s Day

Theme: “Women of Faith: Called, Valued, and Empowered by God”

Key Text: Proverbs 31:25 – “She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.”

Introduction

Today we gather to reflect on the significance of women in God’s creation and His redemptive plan. Around the world, International Women’s Day is observed to recognize the achievements, struggles, and contributions of women in society. As believers, we also celebrate the profound role women play in God’s kingdom.

From the very beginning, the Bible reveals that women are created in the image of God and are essential to His purposes.

Genesis 1:27 declares:

"So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them."

This verse reminds us that both men and women share the dignity of being God’s image bearers. Women are not secondary in God’s plan; they are integral to His design for humanity.

International Women’s Day gives the church an opportunity to affirm God’s love, calling, and empowerment of women. Today we will reflect on three biblical truths:

1. Women are created with dignity and value
2. Women are called to serve God’s purpose
3. Women are empowered to influence generations

1. Women Are Created with Dignity and Value

The Bible begins with the story of creation, where God forms humanity with intentional care. In Genesis 2:18, God says:

"It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him."

The word “helper” used here does not mean someone inferior. In fact, the Hebrew word ezer is often used in the Bible to describe God Himself as our helper (Psalm 121:1–2). This shows that the role of women is honorable and powerful.

Women carry immense value in God’s sight.

Throughout Scripture, God demonstrates His respect and care for women. In cultures where women were often marginalized, Jesus elevated them, spoke with them, and included them in His ministry.

For example, in John 4, Jesus speaks with the Samaritan woman at the well. This was revolutionary for that time because Jewish men rarely spoke publicly with Samaritan women. Yet Jesus not only speaks with her but entrusts her with the message of living water.

After encountering Jesus, she becomes a witness to her entire town.

John 4:39 says:

"Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman's testimony."

This moment shows that God values women as carriers of the gospel message.

The church must remember that every woman—whether a mother, daughter, leader, or worker—has dignity because she is created in God’s image.

International Women’s Day reminds us that the church should affirm the worth and respect God has given to women.

2. Women Are Called to Serve God’s Purpose

Throughout the Bible, God calls women to play critical roles in His story of salvation.

Let us look at a few examples.

Esther – Courageous Leadership

Esther was a young Jewish woman who became queen in Persia. When her people were threatened with destruction, she risked her life to speak to the king.

Esther 4:14 says:

"And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?"

Esther’s courage saved the Jewish nation.

Her story reminds us that God positions women strategically to bring deliverance and hope.

Deborah – Spiritual and National Leader

Deborah was a prophet and judge in Israel. Judges 4:4 says:

"Now Deborah, a prophet, the wife of Lappidoth, was leading Israel at that time."

She provided wisdom, guidance, and leadership to the nation.

Her story reminds us that God can call women to leadership and influence for His purposes.

Mary – Obedience to God’s Plan

Mary, the mother of Jesus, demonstrated extraordinary faith.

When the angel announced that she would give birth to the Messiah, she responded in humility and trust.

Luke 1:38 says:

"I am the Lord’s servant… May your word to me be fulfilled."

Mary’s obedience changed the course of history.

Through these examples we see that women are not only participants in God’s story—they are essential to it.

God calls women to ministry, service, leadership, and witness.

3. Women Are Empowered to Influence Generations

Women often play a powerful role in shaping families, communities, and future generations.

One of the greatest examples is the influence of a godly mother.

In 2 Timothy 1:5, Paul writes to Timothy:

"I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice."

Timothy’s faith was shaped by the spiritual influence of the women in his family.

This reminds us that women often nurture faith in the next generation.

The Proverbs 31 woman is another powerful example.

Proverbs 31:25–26 says:

"She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue."

This passage describes a woman who is strong, wise, hardworking, and compassionate.

She influences her household, supports her community, and honors God through her life.

Women influence society in many ways:

• As mothers who nurture children
• As teachers who shape young minds
• As leaders who guide communities
• As servants who care for the vulnerable
• As believers who proclaim the gospel

Their impact extends across generations.

4. Jesus Restores the Honor of Women

One of the most beautiful aspects of the gospel is how Jesus restores dignity to women.

In Luke 8:1–3 we read that many women supported Jesus’ ministry.

Mary Magdalene, Joanna, and Susanna were among those who followed Him and helped spread His message.

Even more significant is the resurrection story.

The first witnesses of the resurrection were women.

Luke 24:9–10 tells us that the women reported the empty tomb to the apostles.

In a culture where women’s testimony was often ignored, God chose women to be the first messengers of the greatest news in history.

This demonstrates the honor God places on women in His kingdom.

5. The Church’s Responsibility Toward Women

International Women’s Day also challenges the church to reflect on how we support and uplift women.

The Bible teaches us to honor and respect women.

1 Peter 3:7 says:

"Treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life."

Women are co-heirs of God’s grace.

The church must therefore:

• Encourage women in their spiritual gifts
• Protect their dignity and rights
• Support them in leadership and ministry
• Stand against injustice and discrimination

When the church values women, it reflects the heart of Christ.

6. A Call to Women Today

To the women listening today, remember these truths:

You are created by God.

Psalm 139:14 says:

"I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made."

You are called by God.

Ephesians 2:10 reminds us that we are God’s workmanship created for good works.

You are empowered by God.

Acts 1:8 promises that the Holy Spirit gives power to be witnesses.

Your life matters in God’s kingdom.

Whether you serve in the home, church, workplace, or community, God can use you to transform lives.

7. Encouragement to the Whole Church

International Women’s Day is not only about honoring women—it is about recognizing how the body of Christ functions together.

Galatians 3:28 says:

"There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus."

In Christ, we share equal value and purpose.

When men and women work together in faith, the church becomes a powerful witness to the world.

Conclusion

As we celebrate International Women’s Day, let us remember the message of Scripture:

Women are created with dignity, called to God’s purpose, and empowered to influence generations.

From Eve to Esther, from Mary to the women at the empty tomb, God has used women in remarkable ways to accomplish His mission.

Today we honor mothers, daughters, sisters, leaders, and servants who faithfully live out their calling.

May the church continue to support and uplift women so that their gifts and voices bring glory to God.

Let us celebrate the strength, wisdom, and faith that God has placed within women.

And may every woman remember the promise of Proverbs 31:30:

"Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised."

Heavenly Father,

We thank You for the women You have placed in our lives. Thank You for their faith, strength, and love. Bless them with wisdom, courage, and joy. Help the church to honor and support women according to Your Word. May every woman know her value and calling in Your kingdom. Use them to bless families, communities, and nations.

परिचय

आज हम यहाँ एक महत्वपूर्ण विषय पर मनन करने के लिए एकत्र हुए हैं—परमेश्वर की सृष्टि और उसके उद्धार के कार्य में महिलाओं की भूमिका। पूरी दुनिया में अंतरराष्ट्रीय महिला दिवस मनाया जाता है ताकि महिलाओं के योगदान, संघर्ष और उपलब्धियों को सम्मान दिया जा सके।

एक विश्वासियों के रूप में हम यह भी स्वीकार करते हैं कि परमेश्वर की योजना में महिलाओं का स्थान बहुत महत्वपूर्ण है।

बाइबल हमें बताती है कि स्त्री और पुरुष दोनों परमेश्वर के स्वरूप में बनाए गए हैं।

उत्पत्ति 1:27 कहता है:

"इस प्रकार परमेश्वर ने मनुष्य को अपने स्वरूप में उत्पन्न किया; अपने ही स्वरूप में परमेश्वर ने उसको उत्पन्न किया; नर और नारी करके उसने मनुष्यों की सृष्टि की।"

यह पद हमें याद दिलाता है कि स्त्री और पुरुष दोनों परमेश्वर की छवि को प्रकट करते हैं। महिलाएँ परमेश्वर की योजना में किसी भी प्रकार से कम नहीं हैं, बल्कि वे उसके उद्देश्य को पूरा करने में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाती हैं।

अंतरराष्ट्रीय महिला दिवस हमें यह अवसर देता है कि हम महिलाओं के सम्मान, बुलाहट और सामर्थ्य को पहचानें।

आज हम तीन मुख्य बातों पर विचार करेंगे:

1. महिलाएँ सम्मान और मूल्य के साथ बनाई गई हैं
2. महिलाएँ परमेश्वर की योजना के लिए बुलायी गई हैं
3. महिलाएँ पीढ़ियों को प्रभावित करने के लिए सामर्थी बनाई गई हैं

1. महिलाएँ सम्मान और मूल्य के साथ बनाई गई हैं

सृष्टि की शुरुआत में ही परमेश्वर ने स्त्री के महत्व को स्पष्ट किया।

उत्पत्ति 2:18 में लिखा है:

"फिर यहोवा परमेश्वर ने कहा, मनुष्य का अकेला रहना अच्छा नहीं; मैं उसके लिये एक ऐसा सहायक बनाऊँगा जो उसके योग्य हो।"

यहाँ “सहायक” शब्द का अर्थ किसी कमजोर या कमतर व्यक्ति से नहीं है। बाइबल में कई बार परमेश्वर स्वयं को भी हमारा सहायक कहता है।

भजन संहिता 121:1–2 कहता है:

"मैं अपनी आँखें पर्वतों की ओर उठाता हूँ; मुझे सहायता कहाँ से मिलेगी? मेरी सहायता यहोवा की ओर से होती है।"

इससे स्पष्ट होता है कि स्त्री की भूमिका सम्मानजनक और सामर्थी है।

यीशु मसीह के जीवन में भी हम देखते हैं कि उन्होंने महिलाओं को विशेष सम्मान दिया।

यूहन्ना 4 में हम सामरी स्त्री की कहानी पढ़ते हैं। उस समय यहूदी पुरुषों का सामरी स्त्रियों से बात करना असामान्य था। फिर भी यीशु ने उससे बात की और उसे “जीवित जल” का संदेश दिया।

उस स्त्री ने अपने नगर में जाकर यीशु के बारे में गवाही दी।

यूहन्ना 4:39 कहता है:

"उस स्त्री के कहने से कि उसने मेरे सब काम बता दिए, उस नगर के बहुत से सामरियों ने उस पर विश्वास किया।"

यह घटना दिखाती है कि परमेश्वर महिलाओं को भी सुसमाचार के संदेशवाहक के रूप में उपयोग करता है।

2. महिलाएँ परमेश्वर की योजना के लिए बुलायी गई हैं

बाइबल में कई ऐसी महिलाएँ हैं जिन्हें परमेश्वर ने अपने महान कार्य के लिए चुना।

एस्तेर – साहसी नेतृत्व

एस्तेर एक यहूदी स्त्री थी जो फारस की रानी बनी। जब उसके लोगों के विनाश का खतरा आया, तब उसने साहस के साथ राजा के सामने जाकर अपने लोगों के लिए विनती की।

एस्तेर 4:14 कहता है:

"क्या जाने तू ऐसे ही समय के लिये राजपद पर पहुँची है?"

एस्तेर के साहस ने पूरे यहूदी राष्ट्र को बचा लिया।

यह हमें सिखाता है कि परमेश्वर महिलाओं को भी विशेष समय और परिस्थितियों के लिए उठाता है।

देबोरा – आध्यात्मिक और राष्ट्रीय अगुवाई

न्यायियों 4:4 में लिखा है:

"लप्पीदोत की पत्नी दबोरा जो एक भविष्यद्वक्तिन थी, उस समय इस्राएल का न्याय करती थी।"

देबोरा एक आध्यात्मिक नेता थी जिसने पूरे राष्ट्र का मार्गदर्शन किया।

उसकी कहानी हमें दिखाती है कि परमेश्वर महिलाओं को भी नेतृत्व के लिए बुला सकता है।

मरियम – परमेश्वर की इच्छा के प्रति आज्ञाकारिता

यीशु की माता मरियम ने महान विश्वास का उदाहरण प्रस्तुत किया।

जब स्वर्गदूत ने उसे बताया कि वह मसीह को जन्म देगी, तो उसने विनम्रता से उत्तर दिया।

लूका 1:38 में मरियम कहती है:

"देख, मैं प्रभु की दासी हूँ; जैसा तूने कहा है, वैसा ही मेरे लिये हो।"

मरियम की आज्ञाकारिता ने इतिहास को बदल दिया।

3. महिलाएँ पीढ़ियों को प्रभावित करने के लिए सामर्थी बनाई गई हैं

महिलाएँ अक्सर परिवार और समाज में गहरा प्रभाव डालती हैं।

बाइबल में हमें एक सुंदर उदाहरण मिलता है।

2 तीमुथियुस 1:5 में पौलुस लिखता है:

"मुझे तेरे निष्कपट विश्वास की सुधि आती है, जो पहले तेरी नानी लोइस और तेरी माता यूनिके में था।"

तीमुथियुस का विश्वास उसकी माँ और नानी के प्रभाव से विकसित हुआ।

यह हमें दिखाता है कि एक विश्वासयोग्य स्त्री आने वाली पीढ़ियों को प्रभावित कर सकती है।

नीतिवचन 31 की स्त्री

नीतिवचन 31:25–26 कहता है:

"वह सामर्थ्य और प्रताप का पहिरावा पहिने रहती है; और आने वाले समय पर हँसती है। वह बुद्धि के साथ मुँह खोलती है, और उसकी जीभ पर कृपा की शिक्षा रहती है।"

यह स्त्री मेहनती, बुद्धिमान, और परमेश्वर से डरने वाली है।

उसका जीवन उसके परिवार और समाज को आशीष देता है।

4. यीशु ने महिलाओं को सम्मान दिया

यीशु की सेवकाई में कई महिलाएँ शामिल थीं।

लूका 8:1–3 बताता है कि मरियम मगदलीनी, योअन्ना और सुज़न्ना जैसी कई महिलाएँ यीशु की सेवा में सहयोग करती थीं।

सबसे अद्भुत बात यह है कि यीशु के पुनरुत्थान के बाद सबसे पहले महिलाओं ने ही खाली कब्र देखी।

लूका 24:9–10 बताता है कि महिलाओं ने ही शिष्यों को पुनरुत्थान का समाचार दिया।

इससे पता चलता है कि परमेश्वर महिलाओं को महान संदेशों का वाहक बनाता है।

5. कलीसिया की जिम्मेदारी

अंतरराष्ट्रीय महिला दिवस हमें यह भी याद दिलाता है कि कलीसिया को महिलाओं का सम्मान करना चाहिए।

1 पतरस 3:7 कहता है:

"उन्हें जीवन के अनुग्रह के वारिस होने के कारण आदर दो।"

महिलाएँ भी परमेश्वर के अनुग्रह की सहभागी हैं।

इसलिए कलीसिया को चाहिए कि:

• महिलाओं के आत्मिक वरदानों को प्रोत्साहित करे
• उनकी गरिमा की रक्षा करे
• उन्हें सेवकाई और नेतृत्व में समर्थन दे
• अन्याय और भेदभाव के विरुद्ध खड़ा हो

6. आज की महिलाओं के लिए संदेश

प्रिय बहनों, याद रखें:

आप परमेश्वर की अद्भुत सृष्टि हैं।

भजन संहिता 139:14 कहता है:

"मैं तेरा धन्यवाद करूँगा क्योंकि मैं भययोग्य और अद्भुत रीति से रचा गया हूँ।"

आप परमेश्वर द्वारा बुलायी गई हैं।

इफिसियों 2:10 कहता है कि हम अच्छे कामों के लिए बनाए गए हैं।

आप परमेश्वर द्वारा सामर्थी बनाई गई हैं।

प्रेरितों के काम 1:8 हमें बताता है कि पवित्र आत्मा हमें सामर्थ देता है।

आपका जीवन परमेश्वर की योजना में बहुत मूल्यवान है।

निष्कर्ष

अंतरराष्ट्रीय महिला दिवस हमें यह याद दिलाता है कि महिलाएँ:

• सम्मान के साथ बनाई गई हैं
• परमेश्वर की योजना के लिए बुलायी गई हैं
• पीढ़ियों को प्रभावित करने के लिए सामर्थी बनाई गई हैं

एस्तेर से लेकर मरियम तक और पुनरुत्थान की गवाह महिलाओं तक, परमेश्वर ने महिलाओं का उपयोग अपने महान कार्यों के लिए किया है।

आज हम माताओं, बहनों, बेटियों और सेविकाओं का सम्मान करते हैं।

नीतिवचन 31:30 कहता है:

"रूप झूठा और सुन्दरता व्यर्थ है, परन्तु जो स्त्री यहोवा का भय मानती है उसकी प्रशंसा की जाएगी।"

समापन प्रार्थना

हे स्वर्गीय पिता,

हम आपको धन्यवाद देते हैं उन सभी महिलाओं के लिए जिन्हें आपने हमारे जीवन में रखा है। उनकी आस्था, प्रेम और बलिदान के लिए हम आभारी हैं। उन्हें बुद्धि, साहस और आनंद से भर दीजिए। कलीसिया को सहायता दीजिए कि वह महिलाओं का सम्मान करे और उन्हें आपकी सेवा में आगे बढ़ाए।

यीशु के नाम में हम प्रार्थना करते हैं।
